How long does it take to recover from wisdom teeth removal?

Wisdom teeth or third molar teeth develop between the age of 15 and 24. These teeth come in without any problem. Most often, the molar teeth do not come in properly and need to be removed for both our comfort and the health of our teeth. Wisdom tooth removal is so common nowadays and it is quite a painful experience also. Usually, it takes 2 weeks to recover completely after wisdom tooth extraction. If taken care properly would speed up the healing process.

The improper growth of wisdom teeth happens when there is no enough space in the mouth for the wisdom tooth to move into the right position. They may come in partially or might break through the gums at an angle. These teeth are called impacted wisdom teeth and can cause pain and infection.
The time is taken for Wisdom tooth removal depends on the tooth and difficulty in surgery. The recovery period varies. It depends on the procedure used to extract wisdom teeth.

Surgery may cause swelling and pain which requires time to heal. Recovery takes place gradually. The healing process takes place in different stages. Within 24 hrs after surgery blood clots will be formed. After 2 or 3 days, you can see the improvement in the mouth and cheeks. Blood clots are very essential for the healing process. They prevent excess bleeding, protect the wound from infection, allow new tissues to grow, and protect the exposed bone.

After 7 days dentist remove can remove the stitches. By 2 weeks the complete healing will take place. The recovery period varies for every individual. If the wound gets infected or a blood clot gets removed from the wound, the recovery may take a longer time.
In the first 24 hours is very crucial, you should take proper care not to dislodge the blood clot from the wound.

  • Food that needs to be chewed.
  • Rinsing mouth.
  • Brushing teeth next to surgery.
